General FAQ's And Self-Installation Issues
The Gator appears to be coming off the rim…
If the Gator is “walking out” off the rim, inspect it very carefully for impact. The majority of times, people don’t recall bumping a curb, or hitting a pot hole which can cause the gator to move from it’s original installation. Even the slightest nudge or bump in to any immovable object, can slightly shift the gator and compromise the installation. Although the Gator is designed to protect the wheel from the impact, the gator MUST be inspected for any damage, and MUST be brought back to where you had it installed, or to the closest authorized Alloygator retail partner, to have it rechecked for proper installation. Please keep in mind that the Gator is an add on wheel accessory, and can move on the rim due to an impact. This can result in the Gator walking out of the secured fitted position. If the Gator has been impacted, we recommend that the Gator is repaired or replaced as required.
What special care is required for the Gators?
The Gators should be cared for the same way as you care for your car, as per the owners manual. Proper washing of the vehicle weekly is recommended; including washing the wheels and Gators. DO NOT use wheel acid on the Gators as the acid will discolor them. We recommend you regularly clean your wheels and AlloyGator® with normal car shampoo or universal wheel cleaners suitable for delicate finishes like chrome. A soft bristle brush can be used to wash the wheels by hand, then rinse off with water. This will help reduce the build-up of any road grit or grim that if left uncleansed, could contribute to corrosion of the wheel finish. Brushless carwashes use caustic cleaning solutions that can discolor the Gator. Therefore, Alloygator North America only recommends using Soft Brush car wash systems that do not use caustic chemicals that will harm the Gators.
Can I use tire shine on my tires?

Due to limited control of application process, Alloygator North America does not recommend the use of tire shine. The reason is, when excessive amounts are applied, this will leach into the Gator profile, act as a lubricant, and can cause the gator to walk out. This can also increase the chance of the tire moving on the rim.

ATTENTION: Do not use spray-on tire shine used by some car dealerships, and hand car-wash locations.

What material are the rim protectors made of?
The AlloyGator® product is made of a “Super Tough Nylon” which is flexible and won’t damage your alloy wheels during fitting, but tough enough to give superior protection.
AlloyGator rim protection has a 2 year warranty against deformation or color fade. EXCLUSIONS: Inappropriate use, incorrect operation or a fault created through incorrect fitting- (e.g. The warranty does not cover impact damage, hazardous liquid damage, exposure to extreme heat/cold or other damage caused by acts of God or incorrect fitment) or Vandalism – Damage caused by others. Any impact to the Gator will void the warranty.
How Permanent is the Color?
Consistent color is maintained throughout the product, which means that the color is fully maintained after damage has been rectified.
Have they been tested at speed?
Yes, AlloyGator rim protection is HORIBA-MIRA certified from European Motor Industry, and have been tested under normal driving conditions, within the legal speed limit.
Can they be used on run-flat tires?
Yes they can be used on run-flat tires, view our gallery to see cars already fitted with AlloyGator® on run-flats.
Are some wheel/tire combinations better suited than others?
Yes some Wheel tire combinations do work better than others. View the gallery close up photos to see what wheel/tire combination work best. Please contact us if you would like further clarification on your own wheel and tire suitability.
Can they be re-used if you have new tires?
Yes they can if the new tires are compatible and the Gators themselves not compromised. Visit the GATOR Garage for our training videos on how to install or change a tire with an existing GATOR.
Do they affect the inflation of the tire?
No, but previously damaged alloy wheels that have been repaired may cause a leak once the Gator is installed. This is due to the imperfect surface of the repaired area, or the grinding down of the damaged area prior to repair with epoxy based repair solutions. The leak is NOT caused by the Gator, but the previously repaired area as once the Gator is installed, it magnifies the improperly repaired surface area on the rim. When fitted correctly on most approved rims, Gators will not affect the inflation of the tire. We do recommend checking the Gator and your tire pressures after 1 hour of driving to ensure correct fitment, and at regular intervals as recommended in your manufacturers operating manual.
Can AlloyGator® be used on Machine Polished/Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels?
Yes, Gators can be installed on Machine polished wheels, however, extra care and continual cleaning of wheels is strongly recommended due to the road grit and grim that can accumulate between the Gator and rim surface. Providing there is no minute damage to the wheel surface, fitting the “AlloyGator” wheel rim protectors will not cause damage on its own, however AlloyGator® North America accepts no liability if the product when fitted causes such damage. Taking the above into account, we do still have many customers with machine polished wheels, that choose to use AlloyGator® to protect their wheels.

Although fitting the product will provide superior protection against curb damage, due to existing imperfections in the lacquered wheel surface, our product may increase the risk of moisture retention, and accelerate wheel degradation if proper cleaning of the wheels is not performed on a regular basis.
Please note: AlloyGator Rim Protection is NOT recommended for any race track use due to extreme driving demands. Any such use is at owners risk and voids all product and installation warranties.
AlloyGator Rim protection is designed to be installed by a trained Alloygator Fitter, at an authorized Alloygator retail partner. Alloygator North America does not recommend attempting to do the installation at home, as special installation training and tools are required.
